Prime Video just added this action movie starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg — but critics and fans disagree strongly on whether it's good

Prime Video just added one of the most divisive video game adaptations ever to its deep library of movies. I'm, of course, talking about "Uncharted," the action movie starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, based on the Naughty Dog video game series of the same name. But while Naughty Dog's most famous video game adaptation — "The Last of Us" — would arrive a year later to near-universal acclaim, this 2022 film was derided by critics, earning a putrid 41% on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. However, audiences strongly disagreed with the critics, rating it a "Verified Hot" 89% on the site. They also drove the film to an impressive $407.1 million at the box office. Having seen it in theaters myself, I have to say I side with the fans on this one. Here's what you need to know about 2022's "Uncharted" and why it's worth watching now that it's on Prime Video. What is 'Uncharted' about? "Uncharted" stars Holland as Nathan "Nate" Drake, a kleptomaniac bartender in New York whose brother, Sam (Rudy Pankow), left him behind in an orphanage as a kid and became a professional treasure hunter. But despite that abandonment, the two still stayed in contact via postcards Sam would send, until one day, they stopped. At the same time that is happening, one of Sam's associates, Victor "Sully" Sullivan (Wahlberg), comes to Nate with an offer to help him find the lost treasure of Ferdinand Magellan's crew, which Sam had been helping Sully hunt down. 30-day free trial for Amazon Prime! Why pay for Prime Video when it's included with Amazon Prime? Try it free for 30 Deal Wanting to find out what happened to Sam, Nate agrees to team up with Sully. That leads them to an auction where they cross paths with the dangerous Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas) and his chief lieutenant Braddock (Tati Gabrielle), and they only just manage to escape. So they head to Barcelona to recruit another one of Sully's contacts, fortune hunter Chloe Frazer (Sophia Ali). This movie is divisive — but I found it fun to watch Just from that synopsis, you can already tell that "Uncharted" isn't lacking for star power on its call sheet. The movie's cast is loaded with it. It's also pulling from some beloved source material. Like with "The Last of Us," fans really love the world that Naughty Dog built in the "Uncharted" game series and were definitely excited to see it on the big screen. I'm not sure this movie delivered on that last front, certainly not to the level that "The Last of Us" season 1 would the following year. But this movie is fun to watch, copying the template set by numerous fun action-adventure movies before it — the same movies the "Uncharted" games frankly ripped off for their premise. In their review for Variety, Owen Gleiberman called the movie "Raiders of the Lost National Treasure of the Fast & Furious Caribbean." While they meant that derogatorily, I think it's a spot-on assessment of why you'd want to watch this movie. Sure, it's a pale imitation of something like "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (though I'm not sure it's that far off "National Treasure"), but not every movie can be "Raiders," something that every subsequent "Indiana Jones" movie has proven multiple times over. Sometimes, you just need a fun, dumb action movie with some stars. On that front, "Uncharted" delivers, and most fans who have seen it clearly agree. Stream "Uncharted" on Prime Video now I interviewed the cast of 'Foundation' season 3 — here's my 10 biggest takeaways for the upcoming season 'Murderbot' star David Dastmalchian talks about that season 1 twist and his hopes for season 2 I was worried about 'The Sandman' season 2 — but the first episode proved me wrong Follow Tom's Guide on Google News to get our up-to-date news, how-tos, and reviews in your feeds. Police drama with perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score lauded as 'one of the best shows of 2025' as it rockets to top of streaming charts

A police drama with a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score lauded as 'one of the best shows of 2025' as it rockets to top of streaming charts Ballard, which is based on author Michael Connelly's Renée Ballard Series, premiered on Prime Video on July 9. The 10-part series is a spin-off that follows on from Bosch, which aired on the streaming service between 2014 and 2021. Ballard stars Maggie Q as Detective Renée Ballard, Courtney Taylor as Zamria Parker, Michael Mosley as Ted Rawls and Rebecca Field as Collen Hatteras. 'Detective Renée Ballard plunges into a web of murder and corruption as she hunts a ruthless serial killer and uncovers a sinister police conspiracy that threatens everything she stands for. 'With her own demons nipping at her heels, Ballard must outwit both criminals and colleagues to bring long-overdue justice to the victims and their families,' Amazon Prime's synopsis reads. And despite only being out a number of days it has managed to land the top spot on the streaming service's ranking. Not only that, it has received rave reviews and many have taken online to share their views on it. Ballard has an impressive 100% on critic site Rotten Tomatoes. While on said on IMDB: 'Beautifully scored, honest, gritty, grounded, with a great ensemble cast. 'I'm truly surprised by Ballard - having read all 6 books, the season feels like an amalgamation of all of them, bringing a sense of urgency even to book readers.' 'Loved it.' 'Ballard is exactly what you'd hope for in a spin-off from the Bosch universe - sharp writing, layered characters, and that signature Michael Connelly blend of realism and moral complexity. 'If you're a fan of smart, character-driven crime dramas, this is a must-watch.' 'Great show.' 'True to the books and the character developed within them, this series doesn't disappoint. 'Maggie Q is excellent in the role, the story lines and rest of cast as well are exceptional. 'If you are a fan of the books or the Bosch series you'll really enjoy this.' The series was developed by Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood. It comes shortly after a Netflix crime drama has rocketed up the charts this week after being dubbed 'the new Ozark' by enthralled fans. The streaming giant dropped all eight episodes of the hit last month and viewers have been binge-watching it ever since. It's also led to the show soaring up the charts, with it currently sitting comfortably in Netflix's top 10 shows, pulling in 11.6million streams to date. Called The Waterfront, the new dark drama's cast includes nineties movie star Holt McCallany and Grown Ups star Maria Bello. Melissa Benoist and Jake Weary also star in the fan-favourite hit.

Netflix just got Prime Video's most overlooked crime drama — and you can binge all 3 seasons right now

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. In August 2014, Bryan Cranston won his fourth and final Emmy for his performance as Walter White on "Breaking Bad" and made a speech that would inadvertently lead to his next TV project. 'I don't know why I have been blessed with an abundance of good fortune in my life,' Cranston began. 'I was a kid who always looked for the shortcut — schemer. My own family nicknamed me Sneaky Pete. My own family!' After thanking the academy, his family, the cast, and the crew, he concluded: 'I'd like to dedicate this award to all the sneaky Petes of the world.' The next day, Cranston got a phone call from Zack Van Amburg, the president of Sony Pictures Television, who pitched him a surprising idea: What about a show called "Sneaky Pete"? Seven months later, Cranston had teamed up with David Shore (creator of "House") to write and film a pilot, which aired in March 2015 on CBS. The network passed on the show, and a bidding war began, with "Sneaky Pete" ultimately getting scooped up by Amazon's Prime Video and premiering two years later. Positive reviews were enough to keep the series running for three seasons, but it never managed to break into the mainstream conversation, which is a shame, because "Sneaky Pete" is a truly excellent crime drama. Thankfully, that may finally be about to change. "Sneaky Pete" is streaming for the first time on Netflix as of July 10, meaning this overlooked show has a chance to reach its biggest audience ever. Here's why it's worth making "Sneaky Pete" your new summer obsession. What is 'Sneaky Pete' about? "Sneaky Pete" stars Giovanni Ribisi (best known as the villain in "Ted" and Phoebe's brother in "Friends") as Marius Josipović, a con man who's released from prison as the show begins. Marius soon runs into a gangster he once robbed (Cranston), who wants revenge. Thinking quickly, he remembers that his former cellmate, Pete Murphy, has some rich grandparents in upstate New York who haven't seen their grandson in 20 years. So Marius becomes Pete and heads north to start a new life and meet his new family. While this plan seems to work at first, it quickly arouses the suspicion of his new grandma (Margo Martindale). He's soon introduced to a sprawling family — including a female cousin he probably wishes he could kiss— leading to further complications. Marius' con-man instincts often make things worse, creating an increasingly tangled web of lies that he struggles to keep up with. "Sneaky Pete" season 1 also features a great B-plot focused on Marius' brother Eddie (Michael Drayer) and Cranston's gangster, which helps keep things moving as we're slowly eased into the world of the Murphys. If you're only watching for Bryan Cranston, however, be warned, he doesn't show up in any of the later seasons, which put more focus on the Murphy clan as those relationships continue to develop and new complications are introduced. A network crime drama/prestige TV hybrid The premise of "Sneaky Pete" may seem slightly contrived, but the execution is masterful, thanks in large part to showrunner Graham Yost ("Justified"), who came onboard after Amazon picked up the show with the goal of transforming it from a network drama to prestige television. A big part of that is Bryan Cranston, who was supposed to only get a glorified cameo but instead wound up with a small-but-significant season 1 role. Cranston clearly saw something special in "Sneaky Pete" and decided to stick around. The always-amazing Margo Martindale ("The Americans," "Justified") also does some heavy lifting to elevate the main plotline while Ribisi and the rest of the cast find their footing. Comparing the pilot episode, which was released on Prime Video unchanged, to the series that followed, it's easy to see how Amazon altered the original concept. It's darker and sexier, in the style of so many mid-2010s prestige shows. The overall structure still sometimes feels more episodic, with a clear adventure-of-the-week framing that might play better on CBS (especially early on in the show), but that doesn't mean you can't binge your way through multiple episodes (or even seasons) at a brisk pace. A (somewhat) satisfying ending The most important question to ask about any older show before diving in is whether it sticks the landing. In this case, the answer is a resounding: sort of. Amazon canceled "Sneaky Pete" in 2019 after season 3, and while the series doesn't end on some huge, unresolved cliffhanger, it's also clear that the show's creators were already planning for season 4. Much of the third season is spent assembling various pieces and bringing important plotlines and characters into position. Yost seems like he was setting up for something big that we'll likely never get to see. Then again, if "Sneaky Pete" is a hit on Netflix, maybe a sequel of some sort could still happen (like with "Suits" and its recent spinoff show). But even if these three seasons are all we ever get, you won't regret watching this criminally overlooked crime series that never dipped in quality and just keeps getting better until its very last episode. Murder mystery series leaves viewers 'devastated and traumatised' - as they sob 'I've never cried so much at a TV show' after 'gut-wrenching' ending

A new murder mystery series has left viewers 'traumatised' and sobbing after its 'gut-wrenching' ending. Streaming fans have been binge watching the new show, despite it having a modest 60% Rotten Tomatoes score with critics. Called We Were Liars, the show is set in the fictional idyllic Beechwood Island and centres around 17-year-old Cadence Sinclair. A year previously the teenager was involved in a mysterious accident that left her with amnesia. However, after being left for dead, nobody will speak about the accident as Cadence is left without answers. We Were Liars is based on a series of novels by American writer E. Lockhart, with the first book released in 2014. In a disturbing trailer for the Prime Video series, which landed on the platform last month, Cadence sets the tone with a gripping voiceover. Played by actress Emily Alyn Lind, she says: 'Once upon a time, there was a mythical land where it was always summer. We were happy, we wanted for nothing.' It continues: 'Something terrible happened last summer and no one will tell me what. 'When you're left for dead, you want answers.' While MailOnline has chosen not to spoil the shock ending, Cadence is left bewildered when she eventually learns the truth. The eight-episode drama left viewers 'traumatised' as they sobbed at their screens before flooding social media with comments. One upset fan said: 'I started #WeWereLiars think it was like a Nancy Drew mystery sort of show. But no. 'Do not watch this show. It is not worth the psychological trauma. I am broken. I've never cried so much to a TV show.' In a disturbing trailer for the Prime Video series, which landed on the platform last month, Cadence sets the tone with a gripping voiceover Another chimed in: 'No one told me #wewereliars was the most devastating f***ing plot I've ever seen and heard in my life.' 'We Were Liars is the saddest thing I've ever laid my eyes on I literally can't recover,' said a third viewer. While a fourth penned: 'WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT???? I was not expecting a fun little summer show about teenagers to be so devastating???' We Were Liars also stars Shubham Maheshwari, Candice King, David Morse, Rahul Kohli and Wendy Crewson. Meanwhile, a critically acclaimed drama starring two Hollywood legends has finally landed on Netflix this month following rave reviews. The hit show made its debut in 2022 and has bagged itself an impressive 94% Rotten Tomatoes score thanks to its stellar cast and script. 1923 stars Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford lead the series, which is a prequel to smash-hit drama Yellowstone. Helen, 79, plays Cara Dutton, the matriarch of the Dutton family, with Harrison, 82, playing her husband and Patriarch of the clan. While it originally streamed on Paramount+, 1923 has now landed on Netflix, with the first series available to binge-watch.
